A sensory system can be defined as components of the central nervous system which comprise the brain, pathways, (neural tissues) and sensory neurons that are responsible for sensory functions, perception, movement, and processing of sensory information (stimulus) such as light, sound, heat, etc.

Additionally, the correct sequence of the events that lead to the sensory processing of a sensory information (stimulus) include the following:

  1. Transduction
  2. Adaptation
  3. Transmission
  4. Perception

In living organisms, information about movement, posture, and orientation of the body are provided by <u>kinesthetic senses</u>, whereas the <u>vestibular senses</u> are saddled with the responsibility of providing information about balance and movement of the body.
