Invertebrates and fish that eat dead organic matter will be most abundant in the benthic zone of freshwater lakes.

In a marine water body, the most lowest zone in terms of ecology is called benthic zone. It name comes from the Greek letter βένθος which means 'depths'.

In this zone, sediments lay down at floor of the sea and provide essential nutrients and minerals to the organisms living in this zone.

Benthic zone, also referred to as ecological zone, possesses peculiar characteristics such as high pressure and low temperature.

The sediments of this zone recycle the nutrients and help in the survival of aquatic organisms.

Is decay of dead plant material a biotic factor or an abiotic factor?
Juliette [100K]
Technically you are able to argue both ends. Biotic factors are living things while abiotic factors are no living things. since the plant was once living, you can argue that it is a biotic factor, however, I would say the dead plant decay would be abiotic because it is not living anymore. I hope that helped!

According to the image below, which season is about to begin in the northern hemisphere?
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

winter

Explanation:

On this image, we can see the Earth being tilted away by 23.5 degrees from the Sun. This tilting puts the Northern Hemisphere in a situation where it is the one that is tilted away from the Sun, thus it will receive less sunlight, as well as less direct sunlight. That will cause lower temperatures on the Northern Hemisphere, thus the winter season will start, and it will last for around three months, at least at the mid-latitude zones. On the other side, the Southern Hemisphere is more exposed to the Sun during this tilting, so t receives more sunlight, and more direct sunlight, resulting in summer in this half of the planet.
