Amniotic eggs enabled the uncoupling of reproduction and the need for an aquatic habitat.

Amniotic eggs are An air-breathing egg characterized by a shell and extraembryonic membranes. These enclosed the amniote embryo in a private pond during its development and mediated gas-exchange with the external environment.

Advantages of Amniotic eggs are they develop more quickly and to a greater extent prior to hatching. It is free from animal dependency and reproduce on bodies of water at larval stage .The shell of the Amniotic egg provides protection for the developing embryo and allows water retention while still being permeable to gas exchange.
