Enzymes can be denatured unfolded by heat or chemicals.

What are enzymes?

Enzymes are proteins that are found in living organisms which are able to increase the rate of chemical reaction and remains unchanged at the end of the reaction.

The factors that can denature enzymes include heat and chemicals. This is because:

 • Higher temperatures disrupt the shape of the active site, which will reduce its activity, or prevent it from working. When the enzyme loses its shape, it is said to have been denatured.

 • These environmental factors can alter the pH level of the enzyme.

Therefore, for an enzyme to perform its functions, the external factors that affects it's activities must be normal and favorable.

If DNA is twisted in the right-handed direction, it becomes overwound. Overwinding results in positive supercoiling takes place. If DNA is twisted in the left handd direction, it becomes underwound. Underwinding results in negative supercoiling.

f. One effect negative supercoiling in bacterial chromosomes is to promote separation of the two strands of DNA in the double helix

20. Does facilitated diffusion require energy for the cell?
Vera_Pavlovna [14]

Answer: no

Explanation: The solute can move "downhill," from regions of higher to lower concentration, relying on the specificity of the protein carrier to pass through the membrane. This process is called passive transport or facilitated diffusion, and does not require energy.
