A child suffering from birth asphyxia is severely deficient in oxygen. Birth asphyxia can be defined as the failure to establish breathing at birth.

Asphyxiation can be caused by lack of oxygen and It can quickly lead to loss of consciousness leads to death or brain injury. Some causes of asphyxiation that include drowning, asthma, and choking. Asphyxiation is often caused by accident.

Asphyxia can be classified into four main categories i.e. suffocation, strangulation, mechanical asphyxia, and complicated asphyxia. The most common or general cause of perinatal asphyxia is complications during the birth of child. Child with moderate or mild asphyxia may recover fully.
