Leprosy is caused by mycobacterium leprae, a close relative of the causative agent of <u>tuberculosis</u>.
This means that the causative agent or pathogenic organism which causes leprosy and tuberculosis share a common genus ( generic name) . This is to say that that mycobacterium is the generic name of the causative agent which causes leprosy and tuberculosis.
That being said said; leprosy is caused by mycobacterium leprae while tuberculosis is caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis

Causative agent can simply be defined as those microorganisms which are responsible for causing diseases to both plants and animals
Microorganisms are living organisms which cannot be seen with the ordinary eyes but only with the aid of microscope.
These microorganisms may be single celled organisms or many celled organisms but are the main causative agents of diseases to both plants and animals.
The causative agent which are responsible for causing other health conditions are as follows:
- Malaria which is caused by plasmodium sp. ( Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium ovaries, Plasmodium malarie and Plasmodium vivax )
- Typhoid caused by Salmonella typhi
- Gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhea
- Cholera caused by Vibriosis cholerae
So therefore, leprosy is caused by mycobacterium leprae, a close relative of the causative agent of tuberculosis.
