What happens when a resting neuron's membrane depolarizes? A. There is a net diffusion of Na⁺ out of the cell. B. The equilibriu

m potential for K⁺(EK⁺ becomes more positive. C. The neuron's membrane voltage becomes more positive. D. The cell's inside is more negative than the outside.

The correct option is (C) The neuron’s membrane voltage becomes more positive.

The resting neuron has a voltage across its membrane which is called the resting membrane potential. There is a concentration gradient of ions across the membrane when the neuron is in the resting state.

Inside the membrane the concentration of  K⁺ and organic anions are more. Outside the membrane the concentration of Na⁺ is more. The membrane is much more permeable to K⁺  than Na⁺ .

The cell’s inside is more negative than the outside when the membrane is hyperpolarized. In neurons the resting membrane potential is close to the equilibrium potential for K⁺.

Why do you think the location surrounding the Pacific Ocean is known as the Ring of Fire
Orlov [11]
The area encircling the Pacific Ocean is called<span> the "</span>Ring of Fire<span>," because its edges mark a circle of high volcanic and seismic activity (earthquakes). Most of the active volcanoes on Earth are located on this circumference.</span>

Match the prokaryotic cell structures to the characteristic of life.
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

1. Nucleoid: Prokaryotes do not have well defined nucleus. Instead, naked DNA or genetic material is found in the these cells which keeps floating freely in the region of cytoplasm called as mucleoid (nucleus-like). DNA carries the genetic information required for growth, development, metabolic activities and reproduction.

Hence, it must match with b. reproduction: DNA ensures that future generations will be similar to parents

2. Cell wall: Cell wall is the outermost layer surrounding the plasma membrane. It is composed of polysaccharides and is found in bacteria, fungi, and plant cells. In bacteria, it is generally composed of peptidoglycans. Antibiotic such as penicillin acts on the cell wall and creates pores in it which kills the bacteria.

Hence, it can be correctly matched with d. homeostasis: taking an antibiotic, such as penicillin, creates holes in the cell wall of some bacteria, so they lose water and die

3. Flagellum: It is a thread or hair like structure which serves the purpose of locomotion in the cells specially in bacteria, protozoa, spermatozoa etc. In bacteria, it helps in moving in the direction of food and moving away from inhospitable environment.

Hence, it can be correctly matched with e. responding to stimuli: move away from a less hospitable environment or towards a more hospitable environment.

4. Pilus: It is a hair like but rigid structure that protrude from the cell surface of the bacteria. It helps in the process of conjugation by forming a conncetion between cell surface of two bacteria.

Hence, it can be correctly matched with a. reproduction: exchanging genetic material in process of conjugation

5. Ribosomes: Ribosomes serve as the site of protein synthesis in the cell. Bacterial ribosomes are composed of two sub-units with sedimentary constant of 50S and 30S.

Hence, it can be correctly matched with c. maintaining homeostasis: protein is needed for enzymes and repairing structures

6. Cytoplasm: It is gel like material found within the cell (excluding nucleus in case of eukaryotes). All the metabolic activities of the cell generally take place in the cytoplasm of the cell.

Hence, it can be correctly matched with f. homeostasis: using energy, all chemical reactions are performed in the cytoplasm

The pH indicator bromothymol blue is an alkaline solution and yellow is an acidic solution. A slight increase in acidity. Such a
spayn [35]

Water plants in the solution are placed under a bright lamp. Thus, option "B" is correct.

<h3>Explain your answer briefly?</h3>

As we know adding carbon dioxide in as solution result in the change of its acidity this is result in the indicator to change from blue to yellow. In the question, it is asked that what factors from the given option will cause yellow indictor to blue which means what factors cause the solution to be alkaline from acidic.

Placing the green water plants in the solution under a bright lamp will cause the is utilizing and remove present carbon dioxide in the solution and leads the to blue color from the yellow color of the solution.

Thus, this could be the answer.

The question is incomplete, however, the missing part is given as below:

A. Yeast cells and sugar are placed in the solution. B. Water plants in the solution are placed under a bright lamp. C. Algae are placed in the solution and left in a dark room. D. A person blows air into the solution through a straw.
