Testing Two-Point Discrimination

Biology
1 answer:

Two-point discrimination is the minimal distance which someone can perceive two different stimuli that given simultaneously. An area with higher receptor density will have a lower two-point discrimination result since the distance between receptor is lower.
The area that needs a high sensitivity like the palm of the hands(especially the fingertips), face, and tongue should be the one with lowest two-point discrimination.

In this report, anterior forearm two-point discrimination result is the lower than the fingertip. This result is suspicious since the forearm shouldn't more sensitive than the fingertip. Fingertip two-point discrimination is around 2-6mm and forearm should be much higher than 6mm.

A mutation in a gene that controls mitosis in cells may cause? a) cancer. b) cystic fibrosis. c) albinism. d) meiosis.
harkovskaia [24]
The answer is a) cancer.

Cells must control mitosis (cell division) in order to maintain normal cell function. If something happens to the control of mitosis, the healthy cells will divide uncontrollably. These new cells are cancer cells and they are also out of control. They will continue to divide uncontrollably, so the mass of the cancer cells will grow.
Regarding other choices:
- cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder of lungs and digestive system,
- albinism is a congenital disorder characterised by the absence of pigment in the skin and hair,
- meiosis is cell division resulting in the reduction of a chromosome number in half.

In your own words, describe the purpose and process of translation. The purpose of translation is… The process of translation is
kondaur [170]

Answer:

the purpose of the translation is to make proteins. proteins are responsible for making bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. proteins are synthesized from the information in a mRNA.

Process of translation

it happens in 3 phases

 • initiation: the small ribosomal subunits binds to the start of the of the mRNA sequence. then a tRNA molecule carrying the amino acid methoionine binds to start codon of the mRNA sequence. after that large ribosomal subunit binds to form the complete intiation complex.
 • elongation: the ribosome continues to translate each codon in turn each corresponding amino acid is added to the growing chain and linked via bond called peptide bond. elongation continues untill all the codons are read.
 • termination: it occurs when the ribosome reaches a stop codon. since there is no tRNA molecules that can recognise these codons the ribosome recognises that translation is complete.

after these 3 phases a new protein is realeasd

Describe an environmental factor that could influence natural selection and decrease genetic diversity
pashok25 [27]

Answer:

Usually, Populations have a genetic variation among individuals, which is important to the population's ability to survive in different situations that have an effect on the natural selection. There are different factors which can increase or decrease the genetic diversity, and influencing natural selection.

These factors include an environmental factor, one of the major factors, which may cause changes in the genetic variation of a population and influence the natural selection. A famous and important example of environmental factors affecting natural selection was during the Industrial Revolution, when many more grey moths made up the moth population.

This was so that they could blend in with the soot from factories to avoid predators.
