The evolution of a poisonous snail species from an ancestral snail species that was not poisonous can be explained by the phenomenon of trait gain.

Evolution is the process of slow and gradual changes that occur within a species. It is long-term process that takes over millions of years and various generation for the change to be visible. Evolution can be caused by the environmental factors or genetic factors or both.

Trait gain is the phenomenon of evolution where a species can evolve a trait that was not present in their ancestors. This evolution can take place to either to combat any unfavorable situation or to protect oneself from the enemies around.

1) Panspermia is a hypothesis that states that life on Earth may have been purposefully or accidentally seeded by life from othe
Fynjy0 [20]

One of the events that could give credence to the panspermia hypothesis would be the presence of carbon-based molecules on meteors that strike the earth's surface.

Evidence of extraterrestrial lives

All biomolecules of life are carbon-based. Examples of these molecules include carbohydrates, proteins, ribonucleic acids, etc.

In order for life to exist in a place, carbon must be abundant.

Thus, the presence of carbon-based molecules on meteors from another planet that hit the surface of the earth may be evidence that life exists on another planet.

This can be used as evidence that life on earth came from extraterrestrial sources.

Scientists interested in knowing the best way to restore an area after a temporary road was built through it completed a study c
Drupady [299]

Answer:

This study was focused on an Ecosystem level, as it involved soil properties and above-ground vegetation interacting with mentioned soil physic properties.

Explanation:

Ecological studies can be performed at different hierarchy levels:

- Organism: This is an individual physiologically independent from other individuals. At this level, it must be understood how an organism survives under certain changing physic and chemistry conditions, and how it behaves to reproduce, avoid predators, and find food.

- Population: Groups of individuals from the same species, with similar characteristics, capable of crossing, leaving offspring that live in the same habitat at the same time. At this level, it is interesting to know the size of the population required to leave fertile offspring that ensure the population will survive over time. It is also interesting to know genetic variability that allows evolutive adaptation to environmental changes.

- Community: Relationship or interaction between different species groups that live in the same habitat and at the same time. At this level, it is interesting to study inter-specific interactions that could cause changes in the populations´ size. These could be the cases of competition, predation, parasitism, mutualism, and etcetera.

- Ecosystem: Basic interaction unit between population and environment that turn in complex relations existing between living and non-living elements in a given area. In the example, interactions between recovering vegetation and soil properties, as non-living elements.

Which answer most accurately summarizes the (1) structural and (2) functional properties of actin filaments, intermediate filame
Allushta [10]

Answer:

Actin filament are one subunit type.

Intermediate filament has many subunit types.

Microtubules has two subunit types.

Intermediate filament has diverse cellular role.

Explanation:

Actin filament is a monomeric subunit of two types of filament in cells. The two types of filaments are the microfilaments which is one of the three components of the cytoskeleton and the thin filament which is a part of the contractile apparatus in muscle cells. Actin filaments are made up of identical actin protein arranged in a long spiral chain. Actin filaments play a major role in cytokinesis and in cell movement.

Intermediate filament have a strong and rope-like structure. Intermediate filaments are composed of various proteins, depending on the type of cells they are found. The play a significant role by working in tandem with microtubules to provide strength and support do flagile tubule structures.

Microtubules contains two polypeptide subunits in which the dimers of this subunits string together to form long strands called the protofilament. They are long and cylindrical in structure. They perform a variety of functions which include the determination of cell shape, involvement in cell movement and in the position of organelles in cells.
