The case of  Brown v. Board of Education challenged the constitutionality of the segregation that existed in the public schools. At that time, the whites and the blacks could not use the same classroom.

In the landmark judgement, the supreme court held that segregation that existed in the public school contravened the fourteenth amendment and this began to challenge the segregation laws in society​.
