The Confederacy did not think the Emancipation Proclamation was a good idea since they would lose important labor that, in the views of a southerner, would increase output and improve the economy.

How to explain the Emancipation Proclamation?

President Abraham Lincoln of the United States issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which released the slaves of the Confederate states who had rebelled against the Union.

The preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln on September 22, 1862, said that all slaves in the states currently engaged in rebellion against the Union "shall then, thenceforward, and permanently free."

Some recently freed slaves promptly left the area where they lived, while others worked as wage laborers for their former owners. Most crucially, African Americans had the freedom to decide for themselves where and what kind of employment they would do.

Therefore, based on this, the Confederacy did not think the Emancipation Proclamation was a good idea.
