Sunken fontanel , a baby is born with several fontanels , these are commonly also known as soft spots. It is flexibility also allows your baby's brain and skull to grow during the 1st year of birth.

Soft spots are found on the top , back , and sides of the head. The fontanel on the back of the head usually disappears by few months of age. This condition required immediate medical attention. It causes dehydration , kwashiorkor, failure of thrive,etc.

Child need physical examination , doctor will assess your baby's skin elasticity or turgor. Poor elasticity can sign of low fluid levels. The amount of moisture in the eyes and mouth both can also provide clues about baby's level of hydration.
