All the thirty states of the united states make labor day as a public holiday.

But Oregon was the first state in the United States to declare it a public holiday in 1887. By the time labor day became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty states in the United States were officially celebrating it.

By 1894, 23 more states had declared the holiday a national holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.

Labor Day is one of the most widely observed paid holidays in the United States. Labor Day is observed by 97% of employers. However, more than 40% of businesses will remain open and employ some employees.
