Adaptations are unique qualities that allow creatures to survive in their environment. Adaptations can be of three different types: structural, physiological, and behavioral.

How the animal's body operates or appears on the exterior depends on its structural adaptations. Structure-based adaptations include body parts (like the feet and ears) and body coverings (like scales and hair).

Functional adaptations involve internal mechanisms that modify the physiology or biochemistry of an organism. Only a brief period of the summer offers ideal light and temperature conditions for flowering in the high mountains where the alpine snowbell blooms.

Any trait that aids a plant or animal in surviving in its environment is referred to as an adaptation. A penguin's feathers are a structure on the penguin that has an adaptability.
