Luther's belief in justification by faith led him to question the Catholic Church's self-indulgence practises. He was opposed not only to the church's greed, but also to the concept of indulgences. He didn't believe the Catholic Church had the authority to forgive people's sins.
Luther publishes the Ninety-five Theses, which explain why indulgences are wrong. On October 31, Luther nails the 95 Theses to the door of Wittenberg's Schlosskirche (Castle Church).
