The submarine's depth relative to sea level after the first minute is 1.2 miles

How to find the submarine's depth relative to sea level after the first minute?

To find the submarine's depth after the first minute, we first need to find the rate at which the submarine descends, r.

The rate at which the submarime descends is r = d/t where

 • d = submarine's depth and
 • t = time of descent to depth d.

Given that submarine descended at a constant rate to a depth of −3/4 mile relative to sea level in 5/8 minutes, we have that

 • d = -3/4 mile and
 • t = 5/8 minutes.

So, substituting these into r, we have

r = d/t

= -3/4 mile ÷ 5/8 min

= -3/4 × 8/5

= -3 × 2/5

= -6/5

= -1.2 mile/min

So, the depth of the submarine after the first minute is given by D = rt where r = rate of descent = -1.2 mile/min and t = time = 1 min

So, substituting these into D, we have

D = rt

= -1.2 mile/min × 1 min

= -1.2 mile

So, the submarine's depth relative to sea level after the first minute is 1.2 miles

Write the explicit formula for the geometric sequence. Then find the fifth term in the sequence.
Blababa [14]
Sequence: -4, 8, -16

rate of increase: -16/8 = -2

If you make A1 the first term in the sequence you must use (n-1) in the explicit formula. If you go backwards in the sequence to find A0 = 2 then you would use n.

The don't have A0 = 2 listed as an option so we use A1 = -4 and (n-1) terms.

An = -4(-2)^(n-1)

Solving for the 5th term A5, use n = 5

A5 = -4(-2)^(5-1)
A5 = -4(16)
A5 = -64

So the answer is B.

A rancher needs to enclose two adjacent rectangular corrals, one for cattle and one for sheep. If the river forms one side of t
Serga [27]
Basically, what this asks you is to maximize the are A=ab where a and b are the sides of the recatangular area (b is the long side opposite to the river, a is the short side that also is the common fence of both corrals). Your maximization is constrained by the length of the fence, so you have to maximize subject to 3a+b=450 (drawing a sketch helps - again, b is the longer side opposite to the river, a are the three smaller parts restricting the corrals)
3a+b = 450
b = 450 - 3a
so the maximization max(ab) becomes
max(a(450-3a)=max(450a-3a^2)
Since this is in one variable, we can just take the derivative and set it equal to zero:
450-6a=0
6a=450
a=75
Plugging back into b=450-3a yields
b=450-3*75
b=450-225
b=215
Hope that helps!

If x represents the number of flower baskets, then, just as you showed, the answer cant be either a or b because store A doesnt charge $15 per flower basket but rather $15 for delivery. To see whether it is c or d, simply use the same number to represent the number of flower baskets in both inequalities. The easiest would be 1 because then youre multiplying - in the case of store A - 19.25 (how much each flower basket costs) times 1 (the total number of flower baskets) and then adding 15 (the cost of delivery) which is a total of 34.25. For store B it would be 17.5 times 1 plus 30 which equals 47.5. Therefore, the inequality for store A is less than that of store B, so D would be the answer. (i hope that sort of makes sense sjdjdjjs)
