Answer: b.The properties of soil are dependent only on nonliving components.

Soil is a abiotic (non-living) component of the environment. It consist of organic and inorganic components. It develops slowly as gradual process. Inorganic components of soil comes from weathering of rocks and minerals (living). These are responsible for giving soil its color, texture and chemical composition. The organic components of soil comes from decomposition and degradation of plants and animals remains by the microorganism present in the soil. This decomposition process increases the organic humus content of the soil and makes it more fertile. Therefore, properties of soil are dependent on both living and non-living components.

Natural selection relies on genetic variation. In any population of beetles there are alleles for brown or green color. What hap
Minchanka [31]
1)  variation in traits.
population of beetles: equal brown and green numbers in population.

2) differential reproduction.
Natural habitat is in trees. Green leaves hide green beetles.
The brown beetles are noticed by birds in the area.
Birds eat brown beetles.
More green beetles survive than brown beetles

3) heredity
Green beetles reproduce in greater numbers than brown beetles

4) end result
Beetle population changes from brown and green to mostly green beetles.

Lets calculate the parameters of the problem. Suppose that the width is x feet. THen, the length is x+30 feet. The area of this parallelogram is given by the product of length and width, hence x(x+30). This has to be equal to 600.
Hence, x is the solution to the equation x(x+30)=600.
x*x+30x=600 hence x*x+30x-600=0. This is a second degree equation and we can calculate Δ=b*b-4ac=3300. The general solution is given by:
x= \frac{-b+ \sqrt{\Delta} }{2a}.
Substituting, we get that x=-30/4+\sqrt{3300} /4 or x=-7.5+25*\sqrt{33}. This is the width; the length is given by x+30.
