Since the triangle is a right-angled triangle, we can use SohCahToa to find x

Using the ratio

Tan25=\frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{adjacent}}

Opposite = 4ft

adjacent = x

Substituting these values yield

\begin{gathered} \text{Tan 25 =}\frac{4}{x} \\ x\text{ =}\frac{4}{\tan 25} \\ x\text{ =8.57}8ft \\ x\approx8.58ft \end{gathered}

To find Z we use the fact that the sum of angles in a triangle is 180 degrees

so that in triangle XYZ

90 + 25 +Z = 180

Z = 180 - 115

Z= 65 degrees

We will now use Pythagoras theorem to find y

\begin{gathered} \text{For that} \\ y^2=x^2+4^2 \\ \text{but x = 8.58ft} \\ y^2=8.58^2+4^2 \\ y=\sqrt[]{73.6164\text{ +16}} \\ y\text{ =9.46 ft} \end{gathered}

Hence x= 8.58 ft, y= 9.46ft and Z = 65 degrees, Option C

Subtract (x^2+3x-4) -(4x-2x^2-3)
Feliz [49]

Answer:

3 x^2 - x + -1

Step-by-step explanation:

Simplify the following:

-(4 x - 2 x^2 - 3) + x^2 + 3 x - 4

Factor -1 out of -2 x^2 + 4 x - 3:

--(2 x^2 - 4 x + 3) + x^2 + 3 x - 4

(-1)^2 = 1:

2 x^2 - 4 x + 3 + x^2 + 3 x - 4

Grouping like terms, 2 x^2 + x^2 + 3 x - 4 x - 4 + 3 = (x^2 + 2 x^2) + (3 x - 4 x) + (-4 + 3):

(x^2 + 2 x^2) + (3 x - 4 x) + (-4 + 3)

x^2 + 2 x^2 = 3 x^2:

3 x^2 + (3 x - 4 x) + (-4 + 3)

3 x - 4 x = -x:

3 x^2 + -x + (-4 + 3)

3 - 4 = -1:

Answer: 3 x^2 - x + -1

Can the mean value theorum be applied to the function f(x)=1/x^2 on the interval [-2, 1]? Explain.
Temka [501]

Answer:

No, it can not be applied.

Step-by-step explanation:

f(x) = 1/x²

f(x) is a polynomial that is not continuous

As,

f(x) = 1/0 is undefines

Secondly, it is not differentiable (i.e. the derivative does not exists on the interval given)

Derivative of this function

f'(x) = (1)x^-2

       = -2x^(-2-1)

       = -2x^(-3)

       = -2/x³

      =  -2/x³

f'(0) = -2/0 is undefined

Thus, mean value theorem can not be applied.
