When you believe that you have reached a conventional stage of moral maturity, you act without regard for what your friends might expect of you. You stand out from folks at other levels because of this behavior.

The person transcends their own society's perspective at the post-conventional level. Morality is described as abstract rules and ideals that apply to all circumstances and social structures; the person tries to see things from the viewpoint of all people.

In every aspect of society, unconventional moral thinking is present. An illustration would be holding a belief that is in opposition to societal expectations or legal requirements, such as the notion that healthcare in the United States should be accessible to all.

It is distinguished by a morality that is founded on respect for individual freedom and all human rights. It goes beyond social conventions or expectations. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Rosa Parks are three examples of individuals who have attained a post-conventional morality stage.
