Flying against the jetstream, a jet travels 3950 miles in 5 hours. Flying with the jetstream, the same jet travels 10,170 miles

in 9 hours. What is the rate of thejet in still air and what is the rate of the jetstream?

Velocity of that jet flying against the jetstream is:

V_1=\frac{3950}{5}=790\text{ miles/hour}

And the velocity of that jet flying with the jetstream is:

V_2=\frac{10170}{9}=1130\text{ miles/hour}

Let the velocity of that jet in still air be x miles per hour and the velocity of jetstream be y miles per hour, so:

x-y=790

and

x+y=1130

Adding the two equations we have:

(x-y)+(x+y)=790+1130x-y+x+y=19202x=1920x=\frac{1920}{2}x=960

the velocity of that jet in still air is 960 miles per hour.

And the rate of the jetstream "y" is (replacing x in the first equation):

x-y=790960-y=790y=960-790y=170

170 miles per hour

Solve 4x^2 - 36x + 32 = 0<br><br>Sorry! It's suppose to be + 32.<br>Please show all work.
mylen [45]

Answer:

x=1, x=8

Step-by-step explanation:

4x2−36x+32=0

Step 1: Factor left side of equation.

4(x−1)(x−8)=0

Step 2: Set factors equal to 0.

x−1=0 or x−8=0

 (+1)        (+8)

x=1 or x=8

Tammy has 35 coins nickels and quarters. In all she has $4.15. How many of each kind of coin does she have
sergey [27]

The currency called the U.S dollar can be split into smaller forms or currency value of itself. Examples of these smaller forms are: <u><em>dimes, nickels, pennies, and quarters.</em></u>

Tammy has 23 nickels and 12 quarters.

Let's represent the number of:

Nickels = n

Quarters = q

It is important to note that the value of:

<em>1 nickel = $0.05</em>

<em>1 quarter = $0.25</em>

<em />

Tammy has 35 coins nickels and quarters. This statement can be represented using an algebraic equation below:

n + q = 35

This can be rewritten as :

n = 35 - q

In all, she has $4.15. This statement can be represented using an algebraic equation below:

0.05n + 0.25q = 4.15

We substitute 35 - q for n in the above equation.

0.05(35 - q) + 0.25q = 4.15

1.75 - 0.05q + 0.25q = 4.15

Collect like terms

- 0.05q + 0.25q = 4.15 - 1.75

0.2q = 2.4

Divide both sides by 0.2

0.2q/0.2 = 2.4/0.2

q = 12

Therefore, the number of quarters Tammy has is 12.

Solving for the number of nickels, we have the equation:

n = 35 - q

n = 35 - 12

n = 23

Therefore, the number of nickels Tammy has is 23.
