The book-length feminist essay A Vindication of the Rights of Women, written by British author Mary Wollstonecraft, was first published in 1792. Women's equality was urged, especially in the field of education, in A Vindication of the Rights of Women. Wollstonecraft claimed that women could not be good mothers, good wives, and excellent home administrators if they were not well-educated and disregarded the cultivation of traditional female values of submission and service. She asserted that women were supposed to devote an excessive amount of time to maintaining their delicate appearance and demure demeanor, giving up their knowledge in favor of beauty, and turning into the playthings of flowers for men.
