Molality is defined as the number of moles of solute present in 1L of solution.

Molality (M) = No of moles of solute / 1 L of solution

Litre of solution = No of moles of solute / Molality

Molality = 0.220M

No of moles= 0.0170 mol

Volume in L = 0.0170/0.220

= 0.0772 L

Volume in mL = 77.27 mL

What is mole?

  • A mole is a very important unit of measurement used by chemists.
  • moles of something means there are 602,214,076,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 number of something.
  • Chemists need to measure very small things such as atoms, molecules and other particles in moles.
  • 602,214,076,000,000,000,000,000 is called Avogadro's number, abbreviated as 6.02 x 10^{23}

Therefore, Volume in ml of 0.220 m hbr solution is required to produce 0.0170 moles is 77.27 mL.

Each molecule of lycopene contains 40 atoms of carbon (plus other atoms). The mass percent of carbon in lycopene is 84.49%. What
IrinaK [193]

Answer: 568g/mol

Explanation:

It should be noted that there are 40 atoms of carbon in lycopene.

Since mass of 1 carbon = 12g/mol

Mass of 40 carbon atoms = 40 × 12g/mol = 480g/mol

Let the molar mass of lycopene be represented by x.

Therefore the molar mass of carbon = x × mass percent of carbon in lycopene

x × 84.49% = 480g/mol

x × 0.8449 = 480g/mol

x = 480/0.8449

x = 568g/mol

The molar mass of lycopene is 568g/mol

A vessel of volume 100 cm3 contains 0.25 mol o2 and 0.034 mol co2 at 10.0c. Calculate the partial pressure of each component and
Artyom0805 [142]

Answer: The partial pressure of oxygen is 76.56 atm , partial pressure of carbon dioxide is 10.44 atm and the total pressure is 87 atm.

Explanation:

According to the ideal gas equation:'

PV=nRT

P = Pressure of the gas = ?

V= Volume of the gas = 100cm^3=0.1L 1L=1000cm^3

T= Temperature of the gas = 10°C = 373 K

R= Gas constant = 0.0821 atmL/K mol

n=  moles of gas= 0.25 +0.034 = 0.284 moles

P=\frac{nRT}{V}=\frac{0.284\times 0.0821\times 373}{0.1}=87atm

x_{O_2} = mole fraction of oxygen=\frac{\text {moles of }O_2}{\text {moles of }O_2+\text{moles of }CO_2}=\frac{0.25}{0.25+0.034}=0.88,

x_{CO_2} =mole fraction of carbon dioxide=\frac{\text {moles of }CO_2}{\text {moles of }O_2+\text{moles of }CO_2}=\frac{0.034}{0.25+0.034}=0.12

partial pressure of oxygen = p_{O_2}=x_{O_2}\times P=0.88\times 87=76.56atm

partial pressure of carbon dioxide= p_{CO_2}=x_{CO_2}\times P=0.12\times 87=10.44atmatm

The partial pressure of oxygen is 76.56 atm , partial pressure of carbon dioxide is 10.44 atm and the total pressure is 87 atm.
