Lymphatic vessels drain lymph fluid from tissues throughout the body and return it to the venous system via two collecting ducts.

How does fluid leave the body?

Fluid can accumulate inside the body for a variety of reasons. A needle and syringe can be used to retrieve small amounts of fluid. This is known as aspiration. Larger or thicker liquids will need to be drained over time with a thin plastic tube.

Lymphatic vessels remove excess tissue fluid and return it to the bloodstream via veins in the shoulders. Lymphatic capillaries in the small intestine absorb lipoproteins and transport them to the bloodstream.

Therefore,  lymph is a one-way system to remove excess fluid from the tissue and return it to the cardiovascular system.
