Here are the examples that combine to make zero:

Two month ago, the temperature was 15 degrees. This morning, the temperature dropped to 15 degrees below zero.

Michael has $0 in his account. He makes a purchase of $75. Later in the day, he deposits 75 in the account.

An elevator rises to the ninth floor and she then takes the elevator from the ninth floor to the ground floor.

The parking garage is located 4 floors below ground level. But, her office is 4 floors above ground level.

What are the real world examples?

In order for the examples to combine to make zero, there has to be a positive number and a negative number. A positive number is a number that is greater than zero. A negative number is a number that is less than zero.

In order for the positive and negative number to make zero, they have to be added together. Addition is determining the total value or summing two or more numbers. Addition is one of the four basic operations in mathematics.

Two month ago, the temperature was 15 degrees. This morning, the temperature dropped to 15 degrees below zero. -15 + 15 = 0

Michael has $0 in his account. He makes a purchase of $75. Later in the day, he deposits 75 in the account. - 75 + 75 = 0

An elevator rises to the ninth floor and she then takes the elevator from the ninth floor to the ground floor. + 9 - 9 = 0

The parking garage is located 4 floors below ground level. But, her office is 4 floors above ground level. = -4 + 4 = 0

Write the equation of the circle whose center is (-4,8) and has a diameter of 18
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 81

or

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 9^2 depending on how your teacher wants it written.

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard form for a circle is

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = r^2

r is the radius.

You are given the diameter

r = d/2

r = 18/2

r = 9

So you already have the right hand side of the equation

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = 9*2

(x + h)^2 + (y + k)^2 = 81

You basically have h and k as well. They come from the center point.

h = 4

k = - 8

So the equation of the circle (and the answer) is

(x + 4)^2 + (y - 8)^2 = 81

One question remains. Why do the x and y values change signs? If you know what the distance formula is, then what you are finding is the distance r of all points on the circle from the center of the circle.

It is the distance formula that is actually the formula for the circle.

avanturin [10]

Answer:

H0 : μ = 60000

H1 : μ ≠ 60000

Test statistic = 3.464

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Sample mean salary, xbar = 80000

Sample standard deviation, s = 10000

Population mean salary , μ = 60000

Sample size, n = 3

Hypothesis :

H0 : μ = 60000

H1 : μ ≠ 60000

The test statistic :

T = (xbar - μ) ÷ (s/√(n))

T = (80000 - 60000) ÷ (10000/√(3))

T = 20000 / 5773.5026

T = 3.464

The Decison region :

If Tstatistic >Tcritical

Tcritical at 10%, df = 2 ; two - tailed = 2.9199

Tstatistic > Tcritical ; He

If BY = 6, YC = 10, AX = 18, then XC =
a: 10.8
b:5
c:30
d:48
vampirchik [111]
To answer this item, we assume that the topic is in similar polygons such that the ratio of the corresponding sides should be equal. In this item,

    BY/YC = AX/XC

Substituting the known values,

    6/10 = 18/XC

The value of XC from the equation is 30. The answer is letter C.

How is an equation like an expression? How is it different?
morpeh [17]

Answer:

See explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

An expression is a set of terms that are combined using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. The following are examples of expressions:

2x-1

5y+8

2

Note: expressions do not equal anything.

In contrast, equations are expressions that equal at least one term. The following are examples of equations:

2y-4=26

4x-4=0

x=10

y=x+2

Note: equations do equal a term, as shown in the examples.
