Africa and South America were part of the same continent called Gondwana, formed around 500 million years ago and it was a <em>supercontinent</em><em> </em>in the Southern part of the world, while the other one, in the North, was Laurasia. Around 175 million years ago, the split between the African and South American continent began, creating a part of the Atlantic Ocean because of this. Their shores are complementary, meaning that they match each other.
