The ecological context of colonization shaped interactions between Europeans and Native Americans because the North American lands were very rich, and the Europeans pioneers wanted to take advantage of it.

Further explanation

The resources that most interested in these settlers were furs, gold, cotton, and tobacco. At the beginning of colonization, there were fair exchanges between the Europeans and the Amerindians in the fur trade. The natives hunted beaver and sold their fur to the whites. They made barter with alcohol, knives, or dried meat. These beaver furs were resold in Europe for the making of hats that were very fashionable at the time.

The relations between these two groups didn’t stay peaceful for a long time. The Indians revolted against this invasion and the theft of their wealth. Many wars have taken place. During the beaver trade, more white trappers settled on Indian territory and hunted by themselves without asking the agreement of the inhabitants. During the gold rush, the Europeans settled on land to search the soil and expelled the Indians who lived there. This event was called The Trail of Tears. For the harvest of tobacco or cotton, large plantations were created where the Amerindians were employed as slaves in the company of black populations brought from Africa.
