1) y2-y1/x2-x1 = -5-1/4-2 = -6/2 = -3

2) The triangles are proportional to each other because, the bigger triangles AB(base) to BC(height) ratio is 8:4, which if simplified would be 4:2, and the smaller triangles is 4:2, which is the same. In other words, both of the triangles are the same.

3) y=0.15x, so the slope is 0.15, and each pencil costs 15 cents, or 0.15 dollar.

4) y=55x, where x=5, so y=55(5)=275.
The bus will travel 275 miles in 5 hours.

5) Slope-intercept form : y=mx+b, where m=slope, and b=y-int.
So, C = 15t+4 is the equation.

6) Yes, this graph does show a proportional relationship, because it costs $1 for every 10 photos, and this ratio is same for every amount of photos.

7) y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y-6 = 4(x-4)
y-6 = 4x - 16
y = 4x - 10

8) Olivia: y=2x
    Matt: y=3x
Matt travels at a faster rate, and I know this because Matt walks at 3 miles per hour, while Olivia walks 2 miles per hour, and obviously 3 mph is faster than 2 mph.

Jamie is hiking up a small mountain. He climbs up at a constant rate of 300 feet/hour until he reaches the peak at 1,500 feet. A
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

Answer:

a. d = 1500 - 300t. b. after 2 hours and after 4 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

a. Since Jamie hikes up the mountain at a rate of 300 ft/hr, and the mountain is 1500 ft high, his distance, d from the peak of the mountain at any given time,t  is given by

d = 1500 - 300t.

b.If Jamie distance d = 900 ft, then the equation becomes,

900 = 1500 - 300t

900 - 1500 = -300t

-600 = -300t

t = -600/-300

t = 2 hours

The equation d = 1500 - 300t. also models his distance from the peak of the  mountain if he hikes down at a constant rate of 300 ft/hr

At d = 900 ft, the equation becomes

900 = 1500 - 300t

900 - 1500 = -300t

-600 = -300t

t = -600/-300

t = 2 hours

So, on his hike down the mountain, it takes him another 2 hours to be 900 ft from the peak of the mountain.

So, he is at 900 ft on his hike down after his start of hiking up the mountain at time t = (2 + 2) hours = 4 hours. Since it takes 2 hours to climb to the peak of he mountain and another 2 hours to climb down 900 ft from the peak of the mountain.
