Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish scientist who, around 1500, challenged the accepted view of the universe and introduced what was called the Copernican system. At that time it was believed that the planets moved around the Earth, however, Copernicus suggested that the planets moved around the sun which was the centre of the universe. He also spoke about the Earth's rotation.

An example of this is India, a country which likely wouldn't be in the economic position it is today if it weren't for advances made under British rule. India would likely be even less developed than it is today and would probably be split into several if not many smaller nations/kingdoms.
