A druggist has two mixtures of a certain chemical and water, one containing 10% of the chemical and the other containing 40% of

the chemical. How much of each mixture should he use to make 10 ounces that contain 25% of the chemical?
If x is the amount of 10% mixture used, then which expression represents the ounces of chemical contained in it?

Let x=amount of 10% and y=amount of 40%.  Since we are making 10oz total, y=10-x so we can say:

(.1x+.4(10-x))/10=.25

(.1x+4-.4x)/10=.25

4-.3x=2.5

-.3x=-1.5

x=5, and since y=10-x, y=5

So 5oz of 10% is mixed with 5oz of 40% to make 10oz of 25% solution.

check

(.1(5)+.4(5))/10=.25

(.5+2)/10=.25

2.5/10=.25

.25=.25

Solve the system <br> thank you
Lunna [17]

Answer:

infinite solutions

Step-by-step explanation:

replace x with 3y + 9 in the second equation

9 - (3y + 9) = -3y ➡ 9 -3y -9 = -3y ➡9-9 = 3y-3y ➡ 0 = 0

this means whatever numver you write instead of y there will be a solution.

The bike store marks up the wholesale cost of all of the bikes they sell by 30%. Andre wants to buy a bike that has a price tag
Step2247 [10]

Answer:

$96.15

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

markup = 30%

cost price= $125

let the cost price before markup be x

125-30/100*x= x

125-0.3x= x

125= x+0.3x

125= 1.3x

divide both sides by 1.3

x= 125/1.3

x= $96.15

Hence the price before markup is $96.15

Stephen &amp; Richard share a lottery win of £2950 in the ratio 2 : 3. Stephen then shares his part between himself, his wife &a
horsena [70]

Answer:

Stephen's wife got £354 more than his son.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Amount of Lottery = £2950

Now Given:

Stephen & Richard share a lottery amount in the ratio 2 : 3

Let the common factor between them be 'x'.

So we can say that;

2x+3x=2950\\\\5x = 2950

Dividing both side by 5 we get;

\frac{5x}{5}=\frac{2950}{5}\\\\x = 590

So we can say that;

Stephen share would be = 2x =2\times 590 = \£1180

Now Given:

Stephen then shares his part between himself, his wife & their son in the ratio 3 : 5 : 2.

Let the common factor between them be 'y'.

So we can say that;

3y+5y+2y=1180\\\\10y=1180

Dividing both side by 10 we get;

\frac{10y}{10}=\frac{1180}{10}\\\\y=118

So Stephen's wife share = 5y = 5\times 118= \£590

And Stephen's son share = 2y=2\times118 =\£236

Now we need to find how much more her wife got then her son.

To find how much more her wife got than her son we will subtract Stephen's son share from Stephen's wife share.

framing in equation form we get;

Amount more her wife got than her son = 590-236 = \£354

Hence Stephen's wife got £354 more than his son.
