A break that separates older metamorphic rocks form younger sedimentary rocks immediately above them is a type of unconformity called a nonconformity.

A nonconformity is a break that separate pre-existing (metamorphic rocks or igneous rocks) from overlying sedimentary rocks. Nonconformities usually show that a long period of erosion took place earlier before the sediments were deposited. Nonconformities can be seen in the Wind River gorge of Wyoming and at the base of the Grand Canyon succession.

Compared to freshwater fishes, marine fishes: drink seawater and produce a large volume of urine. do not drink seawater in an ef
Andre45 [30]

Answer:

The correct answer is - tend to lose water by osmosis since their internal salt concentration is lower than that of seawater.

Explanation:

In freshwater fishes, the body of fishes has a higher salt concentration inside their body than the surrounding water, water enters through the osmosis process. Without any active regulation of this process, fishes would swell and get bigger and bigger. They have specialized cells called chloride cells in gills to take ions from water as they do not have kidneys.

In contrast, the marine fishes have a lower salt concentration in their body than surrounding water of sea or ocean and they lose water continuously and to compensate for this they need to drink water regularly.

What makes the structure of Carbon so unique? Why is Carbon considered the building block of all life? (3 sentence minimum answe
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

The carbon atom has unique properties that allow it to form covalent bonds to as many as four different atoms, making this versatile element ideal to serve as the basic structural component, or “backbone,” of the macromolecules.

All living things contain carbon in some form. Carbon is the primary component of macromolecules, including proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates. Carbon's molecular structure allows it to bond in many different ways and with many different elements.

The surface of the skin can be mapped into distinct regions, each served by a single spinal nerve: these regions are called:
Ivan

Answer:

The correct answer is D. The surface of the skin can be mapped into distinct regions, each served by a single spinal nerve: these regions are called dermatomes.

Explanation:

A dermatome is the area of skin innervated by a single spinal nerve and its spinal ganglion. The cutaneous nerves are those that reach the skin, picking up the sensitivity of the skin. Each cutaneous nerve is distributed in a certain area of skin, called a dermatome.

A pair of posterior or sensory roots and a pair of anterior or motor roots arise from each cord segment, joining laterally at the level of the intervertebral foramen to form a mixed spinal nerve. Each of these innervates a strip of skin called a dermatome, so the body surface can be considered a true mosaic of these.

In the extremities the arrangement of dermatomes is more complicated because of the embryological rotation of the limbs as they grow from the trunk.
