The relationships established between the French and the native Americans, are usually considered as the exception when describing the hostilities that ocurred between the natives and other European colonizers. In fact, the French enjoyed excellent and prosperous relationships with the natives since their arrival to America.

The French never tried to change the way of life of the natives or to compete with them for land. In opposition they inmediately established trade ties with each other and coexisted peacefully and profiting from the cultural exchanges.
