Riverside Elementary School is holding a school-wide election to choose a school color. Five-eighths of the votes were for blue,

5/9 of the remaining votes were for green, and the remaining 48 votes were for red.
a. How many votes were for blue?
b. How many votes were for green?
c. If every student got one vote, but there were 25 students absent on the day of the vote, how many students are there at Riverside Elementary School?
d. Seven-tenths of the votes for blue were made by girls. Did girls who voted for blue make up more than or less than half of all votes? Support your reasoning with a picture.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of votes to choose a color = x

Number of votes for blue = \frac{5}{8}\times x

Remaining votes = x - \frac{5}{8}\times x

                            = \frac{8x-5x}{8}\times x

                            = \frac{3}{8}\times x

Votes for green = \frac{5}{9}\times (\text{Remaining votes})}

                          = \frac{5}{9}\times \frac{3x}{8}

                          = \frac{5}{24}\times x

Finally remaining votes = \frac{3x}{8}-\frac{5x}{24}

                                       = \frac{9x-5x}{24}

                                       = \frac{4x}{24}

                                       = \frac{x}{6}

Since these votes are for red therefore,

\frac{x}{6} = 48

x = 48×6

  = 288

a) Votes for blue are \frac{5x}{8}

Therefore, exact number for blue votes = \frac{5\times 288}{8}

= 5×36

= 180

b). Votes for green = \frac{5x}{24}

= \frac{5\times 288}{24}

= 60

c). Since 25 students were absent on that day of the vote, number of students at Riverside Elementary School = 288 + 25

= 313

d). Since seven tenths of the votes for blue were made by the girls.

Therefore, number of girls voted for blue = \frac{7}{10}\times 180

= 7×18

= 126

Since total votes made = 288

Therefore, half of the votes made = \frac{288}{2}

= 144

Now it's clear that number of votes made by girls is less than half of all the votes.

e). 126 girls voted for blue.

What is the f of x over the g of x when f(x) = 6x3 − 19x2 + 16x − 4 and g(x) = x − 2? (2 points)
VikaD [51]
You're being asked to divide 6x^3 - 19x^2 + 16x - 4 by x - 2.

Try using synthetic division, if you know it:

     _______________
2  /   6    -19    16    -4
              12     -14    4
    --------------------------
        6     -7       2     0

6, -7 and 2 are the coefficients of the quotient.  The quotient (answer to this question) is

6x^2 - 7x + 2

Determine whether each graph represents a linear or nonlinear function. Use the
ANTONII [103]

Answer:

  • x-intercepts: -3, -2, -1, 1, 2
  • y-intercept: 12
  • symmetry: none

Step-by-step explanation:

The x- and y-intercepts are the points where the graph crosses the x- and y-axes, respectively. If an odd-degree polynomial function has any symmetry, it will be symmetrical about the origin.

<h3>X-intercepts</h3>

The graph shows crossings of the x-axis at -3, -2, -1, 1, and 2. These are the x-intercepts. Expressed as coordinate pairs, each will have a y-coordinate of zero:

  (-3, 0), (-2, 0), (-1, 0), (1, 0), (2, 0)

<h3>Y-intercepts</h3>

If the function is not vertically scaled, the y-intercept of an odd-degree function will be the opposite of the product of the x-intercepts:

  -(-3)(-2)(-1)(1)(2) = 12

It will have an x-coordinate of zero:

  (0, 12) . . . y-intercept

A function can have at most 1 y-intercept.

<h3>Symmetry</h3>

There are two features of this graph that tell you it is an odd-degree function:

  1. the end behavior is in opposite directions
  2. there are an odd number of x-intercepts (x-axis crossings)

An odd-degree function will only be symmetrical about the origin. This function has more negative x-intercepts than positive ones, so is not symmetrical about the origin.

The graph has no symmetry.

__

<em>Additional comment</em>

Turning points without an x-axis-crossing on either side, or axis "touches" (not crossing) signify complex or even-multiplicity roots. The function will only be of odd degree if there are an odd number of x-axis crossings.

The end behavior of an odd-degree function will be in opposite directions: the infinity will match the sign of x if the leading coefficient is positive, or be opposite to the sign of x if the leading coefficient is negative.
