To do this, he performed series of crosses using the pea plants, which he chose because of the desirable traits they had.

He performed this crosses using POLLINATION, which is the process whereby plants transfer their male gamete from male reproductive part to the female gamete of the female reproductive organ for fertilization to occur. The ANTHER is the part of the male flower responsible for producing and storing pollen (containing sperm). Hence, the ANTHER is the part of the male flower (STAMEN) that Mendel obtained pollen that he used in performing his crosses from.
