If there are no people, the sewers would be clogged, while cracks will expand and allow a lot of plants to grow, and trees will find root and cover the city with its ever-expanding canopies. Weisman describes how nature will recover a city after many years. The structure of the text theorizes what might happen in the future in a world where there are no peoplele.
