Puberty is also known as adolescence. For girls it is an age group between  10 to 13 years while for boys it is an age group between 11 to 14 years.

This age is characterized by secretion of hormones controlled by brain and secreted by gonads like <u>estrogen in ovaries in females</u> and<u> testosterone in testes in males.</u> The secretion of these hormones leads to the sudden changes in the body appearance which makes the body sexually mature.

For example : Puberty in girls leads to the development of primary sex organs like uterus, vagina etc. and secondary sex characteristics like enlargement of breast.

Puberty in males on the other hand leads to the development of primary sex organs like penis and testes and secondary sex characteristics like enlargement of chest, axillary and pubic hair & deepening of voice.
