15. Read this passage from John Smith's Description of Virginia.

The covering of the earth in most places proves the nature of the soil to be lusty and very rich. Generally, for the most part it is a black sandy mold, in some places a fat slimy clay, in other places a very barren gravel. But the best ground is known by the vegetation it bears, as by the greatness of trees, or abundance of weeds.

What literary element does Smith use in this passage to encourage further colonization of the New World?
A) metaphors
B) vivid imagery
C) verbal irony
D) antiquated syntax

How does "The Black Snake" sound when read aloud?
Alex

Hi there,

the answer to this would be B serious.

I think this is because the way they describe the Black Snake it look like its serious all the time. If you look back at your poem you will see context clues about the story and the characteristics of the Black Snake.

Hope this helped :)

Have a great day

BigorU [14]

Answer and Explanation:

Friday, June 11, 2021.

Today was the first time I managed to win the school race. When I crossed the finish line, I couldn't believe I had won. I even forgot how tired my legs were because my happiness was unimaginable. I could only smile and remember all the effort I had, training for several hours straight and the feeling of accomplishment invaded me in an imposing way. My happiness intensified the endorphins I needed to not feel pain and I could only feel a relaxation and such joy that it was difficult to talk and explain.

How does Wheeler describe Jim Smiley
AfilCa [17]
When he loses the bet on the frog, it's easy to feel sorry for him because he's not a sore loser. When he finds out he's been cheated, his anger is completely understandable When Simon Wheeler starts telling the story of the cow we know there must be a whole boatload more stories about Smiley and his animals.
