You cannot answer this without
making assumptions.

Hannah could help Destiny paint faster. For example fetching tools and food! In this case it could take less than 12 hours.

Hannah may be no help at all and Destiny does all the work and it takes 12 hours.

They could decide to paint exactly half the room each - that would take 10 hours.

However - I imagine that the question wants you to assume they work for the same amount of time - at these rates. In other words they both start painting from opposite sides of the room and stop when they meet then it would take

Time taken = 1 / rate

Per hour they paint 1/12 + 1/20 of a room = 10/120 + 6/120 = 16/ 120 = 2/15 of a room.

Time taken = 15 / 2 = 7.5 hours.

What is the zero in the quadratic function f(x)= 9x^2-54x-19?
Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

6.33... and 0.333...

Step-by-step explanation:

The quadratic formula is

x=\frac{-b+\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}.

It is important because while some quadratics are factorable and can be solved not all are. The formula will solve all quadratic equations and can also give both real and imaginary solutions.  Using the formula will require less work than finding the factors if factorable. We will substitute a=9, b=-54 and c=-19.

x=\frac{-b+/-\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}\\x=\frac{-(-54)+/-\sqrt{(-54)^2-4(9)(-19)} }{2(9)}\\x=\frac{54+/-\sqrt{2916+684} }{18}

We will now solve for the plus and the minus.

The plus,,,

x=\frac{54+\sqrt{3600}}{18}\\x=\frac{54+60}{18}\\x=\frac{114}{18}\\x=6.3

and the minus...

x=\frac{54-\sqrt{3600}}{18}\\x=\frac{54-60}{18}\\x=\frac{-6}{18}\\x=-0.333...

Suppose the temperature outside is dropping 3 degrees each hour how much will the temperature drop in 8 hours
vovikov84 [41]
It would drop by 24 degrees

3 x 8 = 24

For each hour another long way is simple just do

3 x 4 = 12 now just double it
12 + 12 = 24
