The two methods of controlling lava flow are -

a) Regulating the direction of flow of lava

b) Estimating the potential hazards by determining the lava flow length

Explanation:

The lava flow can be prevented in following ways -  

a) Regulating the direction of flow of lava – In Hawaii and Iceland some measures were adopted to divert the direction of flow of lava in order to either cool down the lava or stop it.  

b) The second way of preventing lava flow is through determination of flow length in order to assess the potential hazards of  flow and prepare for the hazard management in advance.
