The answer is <u>Island hopping</u>, also known as <u>Leapfrogging</u>.

This U.S.'s strategy consisted of targeting and taking control of several islands in the Pacific that were not well defended by the Japanese, and to construct small military bases and landing strips in them, which would serve them as bases to attack other surrounding islands of Japan, and eventually get close enough to Japan to launch a mainland invasion. The strategy was successful.

Island hopping refers to the crossing of an oceanic area by a series of smaller journey amid islands as being directly opposed by a country towards destinations. The United States strategy of targeting and taking control of several islands along the Pacific Ocean was also the war tactics of Island hopping. The Japanese unaware of this didn’t defend any of the invasions and allowed the united troops to build up small military bases to attack the surrounding Islands of japan and reach near to its mainland.

The final result was that the united troops were able to reach to the mainland of Japan. Two atomic bombs were dropped in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which brought about a sudden termination to the war. Being depleted of resources and manpower, Japan's naval forces were completely in disarray.  The bombings stimulated Japan's immediate submission after Emperor Hirohito ordered his “Supreme War Council” to accept the terms of Submission. The Treaty of San Francisco formally concluded the war amid the Japanese and the Allies,
