Answer:

The narrator is gleeful.

Explanation:

Of all the possible choices, I dare to say the narrator is gleeful. He is exhilarating with joy and pride about his mad ability to sneak his head into the old man’s room to watch him sleep. You might agree if your carefully read the following quotes.

Strong emotions are expressed in the reading’s excerpt in phrases such as ‘oh, so gently!’; and when he talks about the very moment he says ‘oh, you would have laughed to see how cunningly I thrust it in’.

He ends this narration with ‘ha! Would a madman have been so wise as this?’ which seems to express pride about his endeavours.

If your options are these:
A) It is very difficult to fully enjoy nature by oneself.
B ) To experience nature to its fullest requires mental effort.
C) No human being can fully and truly experience nature.
D)The enjoyment of nature is something that takes practice.

It might be said that the best option is B To experience nature to its fullest requires mental effort because Emerson believed that the power in nature is due to nature and to human´s intelligence. What is more, Nature could help "individuals to be more content within society".
