\frac{x}{x-2} + \frac{x-1}{x+1} =1
Least common denominator is (x-2)(x+1)
Multiply this times each term.
(x-2)(x+1)( \frac{x}{x-2} )+(x-2)(x+1)( \frac{x-1}{x+1} )=(x-2)(x+1)(-1)
After cancelling the like factors from numerator and denominator, you get
(x+1)x+(x-2)(x-1)=(x-2)(x+1)(-1)
Simplify the equation:
x^2+x+x^2-3x+2=-x^2+x+2
Add the opposite of all the terms on the right side to each side of the equation:
3x^2-3x=0
Factor out the GCF:
3x(x-1)=0
Set each factor equal to zero and solve:
3x = 0 or x-1=0
x = 0 or x = 1
After checking each answer in the original equation you will see both numbers work.  It's important to check because sometimes the answers can be extraneous (they don't work).

Sandra bought 30 T-shirts at the clothing store. 20% of the T-shirts were blue and half of the T-shirts were black. How many of
insens350 [35]
So you have 20% of blue and 50% of black.
So you have 70% in total that are both blue and black.
100%- 70%= 30%
So that means 30% were neither blue or black.
Do a proportion
30/100= x/30
30 x 30= 900
900 divided by 100= 9
Answer is 9 shirts are neither blue or black

What is another way to write the equation 7/8 x+ 3/4 = -6
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]

Answer:

  1) 7(x/8) + 3/4 = -6

Step-by-step explanation:

The term (7/8)x can be written as 7(x/8).

_____

The associative and commutative properties of multiplication let you put the factors (7)(1/8)(x) in any order or grouping you like.

Here, instead of (7·1/8)·x, the question is offering the rewrite 7(1/8·x), a straightforward application of the associative property.
