<span>f(x) = 5x − 10 and g(x) = x + 3

</span>f(g(x))  = 5(x + 3) − 10
f(g(x))  = 5x + 15 − 10
f(g(x))  = 5x + 5

when x = -1
f(g(-1))  = 5(-1) + 5
f(g(-1))  = - 5 + 5
f(g(-1))  = 0

Hi there!
<span>The answer: f(g(x)) for x = -1 gives 0

</span>
Step I: find <span>f(g(x))
</span><span>f(x) = 5x − 10 and g(x) = x + 3
To find </span>f(g(x)), we must substitute the function g(x) = x + 3 into the other equation. In other words: all the variables (x) in the function f(x) will be replaced by the function g(x)

f(g(x)) = 5(x + 3) − 10
We can now work out the parenthesis, but it isn't strictly necessary (which I'll show you later).
Parenthesis can for instance be worked out by using rainbow method.

<span>f(g(x)) = 5x + 15 - 10
Collect the terms (by subtracting 10 from 15)

</span><span>f(g(x)) = 5x + 5

</span>Step II: find f(g(x)) when x = -1
<u>1st option</u>
To find the value of f(g(x)), we must substitute x = -1 into the equation. All the variables x must be replaced by -1

f(g(-1)) = 5 * -1 + 5
Multiply first.

f(g(-1)) = -5 + 5
Finally add.

f(g(-1)) = 0
Therefore the answer is 0.

<u>2nd option</u>
We could also use the function without working out the parenthesis, which would have given the same answer:
f(g(x)) = 5(x + 3) − 10
Substitute x = -1

f(g(-1)) = 5(-1 + 3) − 10
Between parenthesis first!

f(g(-1)) = 5*2 − 10
Multiply

f(g(-1)) = 10 − 10
And again, finally subtract

f(g(-1)) = 0

<span>The answer: f(g(x)) for x = -1 gives 0
</span>
<span></span>Hope this helps you!

NARA [144]

Answer:

$1615.05

Step-by-step explanation:

First, you need to determine the total cost for taking 15 credit hours:

Total cost=660+(113.67*15)

Total cost=$2,365.05

Now, you can subtract from that the amount of the grant and the scholarship you receive:

$2,365.05-$350-$400=$1615.05

According to this, the answer is that if you are taking 15 credit hours, you will need to pay $1615.05 for your classes next semester.

2) There are 40 boys and 60 girls in a class of students. What is the ratio of girls to students
ra1l [238]

Answer:

60:100, 6/10, 3/5, 6 to 10, etc.

Step-by-step explanation:

You take the number of girls over total students which is boys + girls. Since there's 40 boys and 60 girls, it's 60 girls to 100 students which can be written in several ways.

What does the point (1994, 400) on the graph represent?
yuradex [85]

Answer: There are 400 tadpoles in the year 1994.

This is because any point is of the form (x,y) where in this case

x = year number

y = tadpole population number

So (x,y) = (1994, 400) means x = 1994 and y = 400 pair up together.

In short, the year x = 1994 corresponds to the population of y = 400 tadpoles.

From the years 1990 to 1992, the population is increasing since the curve goes upward when moving from left to right. Then from 1992 to 1993, the population decreases hitting its lowest point in that specific region. From 1993 to 1997, the population increases before it decreases again from 1997 to 1999.
