m the slope = (5--9)/(8--12) = 14/20 = 7/10=0.7

y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y-5 = .7(x-8) = .7x-5.6
y = .7x +0.6
10y = 7x + 6
so 7x - 1y = -6 any your equation is almost correct.
