Imagine that a newly discovered, recessively inherited disease is expressed only in individuals with type O blood, although the

disease and blood group are independently inherited.
A normal man with type A blood and a normal woman with type B blood have already had one child with the disease. The woman is now pregnant for a second time.
Assuming that both parents are heterozygous for the gene that causes the disease, what is the probability that the second child will also have the disease? Express your answer as a fraction using the slash symbol and no spaces (for example, 1/2).

The sickle-cell allele produces a serious blood disease in homozygous recessive individuals. why doesn't natural selection elimi
icang [17]

No, the sickle-cell anemia allele won't be eliminated by natural selection.

Sickle-cell anemia trait is controlled by a single gene and the allele (S) for sickle-cell anemia is a harmful autosomal recessive.

It is caused by a mutation in the normal allele (A) for hemoglobin (a protein on red blood cells).

Heterozygotes (AS) with the sickle-cell allele are resistant to malaria, a deadly tropical disease. It is common in many African populations.

In these areas, (S) carriers have been naturally selected, because their red blood cells, containing some abnormal hemoglobin, tend to be in sickle shape when they are infected by the malarial parasite.

Therefore, they are more likely to survive and reproduce. This keeps the S allele in the gene pool.

Oduvanchick [21]
The skeletal muscles are considered voluntary muscles and are mostly located in all parts of the human body. Therefore, these are the muscles that are attached to the bones and have an origin but are NOT highly branched. The skeletal muscles are the UNBRANCHED ones whereas, it is the cardiac muscles that are considered branched.

In this activity, you’ll research a threatened ecosystem, the factors that are contributing to its decline in biodiversity, and
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer:

forest ecosystem is whereby the organism live together and interact with each other and their environment. The biodiversity in this ecosystem is reducing due to the following factors:

1. deforestation: if most of the trees in the forest are been cut down without replacement it will affect the animal living there. especially herbivores, they feed on this plant and use it as a hideout.

2. bush burning: if the bush is burnt it may lead the animals to ran away for there safety and some may die of hunger, and some trees and plants may also become weak and die therefore reducing food for other animals.

3. Climate change: Climate change is one of the reasons. As deforestation may lead to climate change and many other factors, Without transpiration and evaporation cloud won't be form and there will be no rain which may lead to draught and finally animal will die and others will migrate.

possible solution to this

1. Avoid deforestation, and bush and plant more trees.

2. the government can also make laws concerning deforestation, bush burning, burning of fosil fuels and tires to avoid climate change.
