3x^2 = 7x - 3
3x^2 - 7x = -3
x^2 - 7/3x = -1
x^2 - 7/3x + 49/36 = -1 + 49/36 = 13/36
(x - 7/6)^2 = 13/36
x - 7/6 = + or - sqrt(13)/6
x = 7/6 + or - sqrt(13)/6
x = (7 + or - sqrt(13))/6

we have

3x^{2}=7x-3

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

3x^{2}-7x=-3

Factor the leading coefficient

3(x^{2}-(7/3)x)=-3

Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation by adding the same constants to each side

3(x^{2}-(7/3)x+(49/36))=-3+(49/12)

3(x^{2}-(7/3)x+(49/36))=(13/12)

Rewrite as perfect squares

3(x-(7/6))^{2}=(13/12)

(x-(7/6))^{2}=(13/36)

square root both sides

x-\frac{7}{6}=(+/-) \sqrt{\frac{13}{36}}

x-\frac{7}{6}=(+/-) \frac{\sqrt{13}}{6}

x=\frac{7}{6}(+/-) \frac{\sqrt{13}}{6}

The solutions are

x=\frac{7}{6}+\frac{\sqrt{13}}{6}=\frac{-7+\sqrt{13}}{6}

x=\frac{7}{6}-\frac{\sqrt{13}}{6}=\frac{-7-\sqrt{13}}{6}

therefore

The answer is

x=\frac{7\pm\sqrt{13}}{6}

A profit of a football club after a takeover is modeled by p(t) = t3 - 14t2 + 20t + 120, which t is the number of years after th
Bogdan [553]
T = 5, so after 5 years
p(t) = t^3 - 14t^2 + 20t + 120

Take derivative to find minimum:
p’(t) = 3t^2 - 28t + 10

Factor to solve for t:
p’(t) = (3t - 2)(t - 5)
0 = (3t - 2)(t - 5)

0 = 3t - 2
2 = 3t
2/3 = t

Plug 2/3 into original equation, this is a maximum. We want the minimum:

0 = t - 5
5 = t

Plug back into original:
5^3 - 14(5)^2 + 20(5) + 120
125 - 14(25) + 100 + 120
125 - 350 + 220
- 225 + 220
p(5) = -5
