Roosevelt unexpectedly tried to win the Republican
nomination from William Howard Taft in the 1912 election because he believed
that Taft had failed to live up to progressive ideas. Roosevelt had earlier warned
Taft to stay away from tariff reform as it could potentially split the
Republican party
The two executive powers that the constitution delegates to the senate are the power to confirm presidential appointments and the power "advice and give consent on treaties" formulated by the President.
After the Civil War and reconstruction the New South became more diversified. It was mainly agricultural before but the new embraced the industrial part as well.
