Out of the three families, the Finches have the most power and highest status in Maycomb. Atticus Finch is a well-respected lawyer and has some money. The Cunninghams are next. They are a poor family, but they try to pay their debts any way possible. This effort makes them more respected around town than the Ewells. The Ewell family has the lowest social status. They live in poverty and take advantage of others. Bob Ewell struggles with alcohol and a nasty temper. These issues cause his low social status and lack of respect from the townspeople.
