A child pushes a toy car down a hill. after 5 seconds, the car has kinetic energy of 115 J and a gravitational potential energy
m_a_m_a [10]

Answer:

Mechanical energy = 145 Joules

Explanation:

Given the following data;

Kinetic energy = 115J

Gravitational Potential energy = 30J

To find the mechanical energy;

Mechanical energy = kinetic energy + gravitational potential energy

Substituting into the equation, we have

Mechanical energy = 115 + 30

<em>Mechanical energy = 145 Joules. </em>

Mechanical energy can be defined as the ability (capacity) to do work. The two (2) main types of mechanical energy are;

<em>a. Gravitational potential energy (GPE): it is an energy possessed by an object or body due to its position above the earth.</em>

<em>b. Kinetic energy (KE): it is an energy possessed by an object or body due to its motion.</em>

The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn border what region?
Doss [256]

Answer:

The Tropic of Cancer borders the regions of <em>Mexico, the Bahamas, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India and Southern China </em>while the Tropic of Capricorn borders the regions of <em>Australia, Chile, Southern Brazil and Northern South Africa.</em>

Explanation:

In order to learn more about the answer, let's consider describing what the Tropic of Cancer is and what the Tropic of Capricorn is.

Tropic of Cancer- This is also known as "Northern Tropic." It is said that at the time of its naming, the sun was positioned in the <em>Cancer constellation </em>(one of the constellations of the zodiac). It is located at 23.5 degrees north of the equator and runs through the regions mentioned above.

Tropic of Capricorn-  This is also known as <em>"Southern Tropic."</em> It is said that at the time of its naming, the sun was positioned in the Capricorn constellation. It lies at 23.5 degrees south of the equator and runs through the regions mentioned above.

<u>Additional Information</u>

<u>Equator- </u>The imaginary line that divides the earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Hi anyone able to explain fully about the continental-continental plate convergence ? I’m a little confused , thanks!!
PilotLPTM [1.2K]

Answer:

1. Continental-continental convergence are both <em>continental crust</em> plates.

2. Buoyancy basically means these plates are light float on top of the Asthenosphere.

Explanation:

1. To go a little more into detail, this type of convergence ocurrs when two plates made of continental crust (not oceanic) collide. In the case of ocean-continent convergence, the denser oceanic crust sinks underneath the lighter continental crust.

In this scenario, we have two plates, neither of which want to sink, so instead of going down they just crumple and fold and keep colliding. This collision creates very high mountain ranges such as the Himalaya and usually doesn't contain any volcanic activity because no magma is capable of penetrating through so much crustal material.

2. As for why continental crust is buoyant and doesn't sink has much to do with its composition. Continental crust is made mostly of silicate material. This is very different from oceanic crust which is made of basaltic rocks and is therefore heavier. The term buoyancy refers to the 'floating action' of the continental crust on top of the uppermost mantle.
