There are a number of accomplishments of the Second Continental Congress when it met in May 1775. The main purpose of the Second Continental Congress was to unite the colonies and to fight the British by forming an army. They did both of them successful by uniting all the colonies and by establishing the Continental Army. However, they also tried for peace through the Olive Branch Petition. In 1776, they also issued the Declaration of Independence declaring the United States as an independent country and also issued the Flag Resolution later presenting the US flag. The meeting in May 1775 resulted in colonial unity and establishment of the Continental Army mainly.
