Answer:

A. Osmosis occurs through a semipermeable membrane. Diffusion occurs through a permeable membrane.

Explanation:

Diffusion is the transport of membrane permeable substances. These, in solution, can flow from the inside out of the cell or vice versa spontaneously. This process occurs from a region with higher particle concentration to one with lower concentrations. Gas exchange between blood and tissues is an example of this type of transport.

On the other hand, osmosis is a process of diffusion of water through a semipermeable membrane and occurs from the less concentrated to the most concentrated solution. This process is a type of passive transport because during osmosis the cell does not waste energy.

Based on this, we can say that what makes osmosis different from diffusion is that osmosis occurs through a semipermeable membrane, whereas diffusion occurs through a permeable membrane.

B. Net movement in osmosis is from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration. Net movement in diffusion occurs from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration.

Conditions on Earth influenced evolution and how biodiversity changed through time. Place the following events in order from ear
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

Arranging the events from the oldest to the youngest-

1. Cambrian explosion

2. dominance of amphibians

3. Earth hit by a large carbonaceous meteorite

4. diversification and dominance of mammals

5. extinction of giant mammals like mastodons

Explanation:

The Cambrian explosion took place on earth about 540 million years back, where majority of the animal species appeared and slowly started to evolved, which formed the primitive life forms on earth. This event took place because of the sudden increase in the oxygen concentration on earth that facilitate the appearance of new organisms, and it lasted for nearly 15 to 25 million years, resulting in the production of many phyla (metazoan).

The amphibian were first evolved during the Devonian period that ranges from about 420 to 360 million years back. They slowly became the dominant species during the Carboniferous and the Permian period.

By the end of Permian, there occurred a global mass extinction event, due to the meteoric impact on earth, which is commonly known as the Permian-Triassic (P-T) boundary, about 250 million years back. This meteorite was largely comprised of carbon materials.

After this mass extinction event, there occurred divergence of mammals species even though they existed during the carboniferous period, but they were dominant after the extinction of dinosaurs, about 65 million years back.

The mammals like mastodons were abundant during the Cenozoic and they slowly got extinct about 10,000 years back during the time of Pleistocene period.

Cholesterol is a ________, which ________. steroid; is a component of eukaryotic membranes steroid; is the basis for many animal
olasank [31]

Answer:

Steroid; is a component of eukaryotic membranes.

Explanation:

Cholesterol is one of the most important chemical synthesized by all the animals. The chemical formula of cholesterol is C27H46O. The cholesterol in solid state was first given by C27H46O.

Cholesterol is present in the plasma membrane and maintain its membrane fluidity. Cholesterol is an important structure of the plasma membrane and acts as a pre cursor for various hormone. The cholesterol is a type of sterol and a lipid.

Thus, the correct answer is option (1).

How are convection current in the mantle and in the oceans similar? How are they different?
Vanyuwa [196]

Hello,

Convection currents in the mantle and in the ocean are similar because they both are responsible for the shaping the Earth's surface. Two forces are behind the movement of Earth's huge land masses. Those forces are convection and gravity.

Convection describes the movement of gasses or liquids due to different temperatures. The convection currents just beneath Earth's crust flow very slowly, causing movement in the plates above them. These currents are different with the fact that they produce different plate movements. Ridge push occurs from the convection currents in the ocean. These occur at mid-ocean ridges, which are elevated higher than the rest of the ocean floor. In contrary, convection causes material in the mantle to flow. Due to combined action of convection currents and gravity, Earth's plates are in constant motion.
